Q Health Advocacy chapters 2 introduces you to the Systems Theory (a theory that helps describe and explain how systems operate). The theory suggests systems should be open in order to survive. When we examine the Health Communication Advocacy Model in chapter 2, we understand that it is characterized by an open system because it considers environmental and situational changes of society and adapts accordingly. You will read the chapter and study the model. It will seem abstract at first but this is the model used to understand health campaigns and policy change. The model has 3 phases and layers of human interaction and communication as well as miscommunication. The next chapter in the packet begins by breaking down phase 1--Assembling a Team. Question (from the Health Advocacy Reading). In a well-developed essay, explain 1) why is the Health Communication Advocacy Model important to understand. 2) Why is advocacy important to the health policy process? 3) Do you see yourself working in health campaigns and in advocacy work? Provide detailed examples and explanations. Be sure to view the Health Communication Advocacy Model figure because the scanned book version is blurry. Provide examples to support your arguments and ideas. Cite all work (text and online) in the essay and list sources in APA or MLA format. Questions are due by Friday (midnight). Respond to 2 students on the board (by midnight Saturday). Reminder: Health Research Topic Assignment Due Wednesday
